We are very proud to announce that on Wednesday, April 30th, Adecco will be opening our doors and our hearts to help youth employment with our annual Way to Work™ Street Day event. This global initiative is an opportunity for us to provide career advice and training to recent graduates and those looking for a job.
Adecco believes that the right to work is universal and that young people seeking their first job experience deserve special care and attention. They must be better equipped with the right hard and soft skills that today’s businesses and hiring managers are demanding – and we want to help!
Youth (un)employment across the world
The problem of youth employment is a serious issue in this country and around the world. Although many have been impacted by the unemployment situation, the joblessness figures for youth are dramatic, with rates in the US being more than double the national unemployment rate (approximately 17% for 18-24 year olds). Some European countries such as Italy (35% unemployment for youth) and Spain (50%+) are facing even worse scenarios. In fact, this situation is so widespread that the International Labor Organization estimates that 73 million young people worldwide are currently looking for work.
So what is happening on April 30th?
On April 30th, Adecco will be hosting events in most of the 60 countries where we operate in order to lend a helping hand to job-seekers. In the US, we’ll be holding a “Careerathon” event from 10AM to 3PM at Palomar Community College in San Diego, California. Adecco Staffing career experts will be on hand to offer free, one-on-one job hunting and career advice to the students and general public of the city of San Diego. It’ll be a great way to increase your chances for getting a job and also have some fun at the same time!
Additionally, all U.S. Adecco Staffing branches will be hosting open houses (during hours of operation) where members of the community — not just youth — are encouraged to visit and receive the same free services being offered at the Careerathon in San Diego.
